Roll Types & Load Thresholds

Elden Ring uses your equip-load percentage — not raw weight — to decide which roll type you get. The live Build Planner shows this percentage on the Equip Load bar the moment you change classes or stats.

Roll type by equip load percentage
Load %Roll typeNotes
Under 29.9%Light rollFastest roll, most invincibility frames
29.9% – 69.9%Medium rollStandard roll speed most builds use
69.9% – 100%Heavy rollSlow roll, noticeably fewer i-frames
100% or moreOverencumberedNo roll — a slow stagger-step instead

Endurance to Max Equip Load

Max equip load scales with Endurance across three growth segments, with the fastest gains between 1 and 25 Endurance and progressively smaller gains after 60 — the same curve the calculator above uses to render your live equip-load bar.

How Much Endurance Do You Actually Need?

Work backward from your gear weight. Add up the weight of your intended armor set, weapons, and talismans, then check which Endurance value gives you a max load comfortably above that total for the roll type you want. A Strength-heavy build in full heavy armor with a colossal weapon often needs 40-60 Endurance to stay under a medium roll; a light/DEX build with cloth armor and a dagger can often stay under a light roll with as little as 15-20 Endurance.

Because Endurance also raises Stamina, it rarely feels "wasted" — points you put in for equip load headroom also mean more stamina for rolling, attacking, and blocking.
